Question 6

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

From the process of constructing this product I have learned many different skills from different types of programs and technology, I have learned and adapted to programs such as Photoshop  and blogger, scribd, I ask had to use and learn from websites off the internet such as UK tribes, YouTube,  have learned skills such as editing photos and text to my advantage to make my final piece to a higher quality.

Adobe Photoshop
I did have problems with Photoshop to begin with because it was a new program that I had used and I only knew the basic to begin with but over time I learnt new skills from using it over quite a long period of time. I learnt how to add and change a photo filter to add effect to the photos for my magazine. I also learnt how to crop images onto my magazine.

Photo Equipment.
I learnt how to use a camera effectively for when I was taking pictures of my models. I learnt how to zoom and adjust the picture for my liking. When taking the pictures I used equipment such as lighting so that the photos I took came out better and I was able to get rid of the shadow on my models. I used a Nikon D3000 to take the photos of my models. Because I had never used the camera before I was unsure how to choose the correct settings but after a while I began to understand the setting and was able to adjust the photo to my liking. I learnt to use the zoom feature effectively and was able to produce good quality photos for my magazine.

Computers
I have used computers for a very long time and have had a lot of experience on them and most of there features. In this process of making the magazine I did encounter new programs that I had very little knowledge of but it did help having a lot of experience with computers in general. Other from the new programs I already knew plenty about computers and they played a vital role in creating my magazine.
Blogger
I used blogger throughout this production task as it was were I posted most of my work and how I planned for the weeks ahead. I posted all of my ideas and how I decided to design my magazine on my blog and why I chose each feature. Also with blogger I was able to look at other peoples blog to get ideas and so that I could leave feedback on there ideas and they could leave some feedback on my blog.

Animoto
I used Animoto so that I could create a 30 second presentation to shows what my magazine was about and what it represented. It was a very easy program to use and I did not have any trouble when creating my presentation.

Question 4

The target audience that will be viewing and purchasing my magazine will be interested in the genre of indie/alternative rock and would listen to rock based music and electronic pop. The thing that my magazine would produce is the latest news and gossip about the most popular artists and other things, it would include things like interviews and opinions of the artists. It would also include information about upcoming events and gigs which the artists may be appearing at. The age group that would be interested in my magazine is in between 16 - 26. My magazine costs £2.99, this is quite a high fee for a weekly magazine but I feel that it provides something different and original compared to other mainstream magazines. The magazine provides information about artists such as The XX, Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekends, these are bands that are very popular and influential in the indie/alternative rock scene.

My magazine would also be heavily influential in the fashion of my genre as it would post the do's and don'ts of fashion. For my magazine models style and appearance and layout I took ideas from other magazines such as Loud & Quiet and I.D, I chose these magazine because they also were magazine that were based around my current genre and my target audience would also read those magazines so it would attract them to mine. With m photos i just used a very minimalistic style by only having a white background and just the artist on there own, i did this because other magazines such as Loud & Quiet and i.d use very minimalistic photos throughout there magazines and i feel it fits well with my magazine and will attract my target audience.

Question 3

I feel that Conde Nast would be the best media distributor as it already is distributing magazines such as  Wired and Vogue. Conde Nast is known to be a lifestyle distributer and is know for promoting things with style and class instead of just an all around magian s i think it would fit well with my mag as i like to think my magazine has an extra bit of class and style to it and would fit well together. If Conde Nast distributed 'Zine' then tat would be the first music magazine they have done and i think it would greatly benefit them as it would open them up to a new area of distribution.

As it is a large company i fell it would create a large audience quite fast which would be good for my magazine. I think that the magazine should be sold in stores but mainly focus on things like the internet and application on iPods and android phones because this would benefit my target audience of 16-25 year olds.  Also it they would fit together because my magazine is heavily influential in style and trend setting so it would fit well with there other magazines like Vogue.

Because my magazine uses well known artists it would attract a lot of customers for it and a bigger fan base it it would greatly increase my revenue by being distributed by such a popular company but it would also make a profit for Conde Nast swell and also greatly increase there popularity by introducing a music area into there company.

Question 1

I put a lot of research and planning into my magazine and the genre and just in general how i wanted the feel of my magazine to be like. I first began looking at popular mainstream magazines such as Vibe and Clash but i did not feel it fitted my genre of music so i went to less well known magazine like Dazed & Confused and Loud And Quiet for ideas and i feel they fitted my genre much better. I used the Loud And Quiet style of cover for my cover as it really liked the simplest and minimalistic style to it et it still looked eye-catching and attract to the user. I seed a large but somewhat basic front throughout my front cover and i spaced it out a lot and did not add any colour apart from black and white and the picture. I also took the symmetrical look from Loud And Quiet as i feel that it made the magazine look a lot more professional and just added that extra bit if quality to it. I did not copy other magazines by adding a tag line and a quote about a story or artist i just simply put the artists name down in large text and place the picture underneath it in a simple square box. I decided to add black lines to add to the symmetry effect on my magazine and i feel that it just make the picture and text more organised. For my photo decide to use the Loud And Quiet style again as they like to use just the artist with a coloured background which i chose white. For the clothing i decided to try and get something that fitted with my genre and i decided just to have a basic facial expression to show that you know nothing about the artist so far.

For my Contents i decided to use the same simple and minimalistic style as i want to keep symmetry with my font and to keep symmetry throughout the whole magazine so it all matched well. Again i kept the same colour scheme of just black and white, i took the idea of the layout of my contents page from Loud And Quiet because i felt it looked very proffesional and well set out and it would be very easy for the user to read. I used a basic but attractive font for all of my writing as it fits my front cover and it will be easy to read. I added a small hint under each story just to give the reader a brief amount of information so it would encourage them to read on and tried to write a certain amount so it still keeps in symmetry with the rest of my page. The three pictures of the models at the bottom of my page was my own idea and i feel it adds the little something to the page as i feel it would be to bland or boring without them.
Once again for my double page spread i have kept a simplistic and minimalistic style and have spread the page out nicely so again it is easy for the user to read, again i have used the same font again because i feel it fits well throughout my magazine. I have used another basic facial expression as i think it fits well with the model and the magazine. I have made it clear and easy to read the article as i have made the questions bold and the answers in regular. I took the Tittle and motto space fro another double page spread inside Loud And Quiet, i really liked the look of and it fits in well with y symmetry styled magazine and it also outlines the artists name. I have used a black line to space out each column so its easier to read and its looks stylish and professional and again fits with my symmetry styled theme. I added a very light blue photo filter to my model as i felt the original picture did not look good enough just on its own.
