Chettri is taking the world by storm with their first brand new album “Imitation is suicide”. The underdogs of the indie/alternative scene have been pushing through the ranks with songs such as “Pulse” and “Weekender”. They begin by supporting bands such a vampire weekend and arcade fire and performing at small gigs around town Critics have not been so open handed about the album unlike the fans saying “it’s an original style but lacks the creativity compared to other artists. Over the past 3 months all gigs and events they have been at have been sold out over night, they have had compliments from bands like The XX and Jagwar ma. When we had an interview with them they told us that they are in the process of making two more songs which they say are “more personal”. Jasmine Smith had the pleasure of interviewing Chettri.

“Hiya Chettri, first off I want to congratulate you on the fantastic album you’ve produced I absolutely loved it.”

“Thank you, I’m glad you like it”

“Right, tell me where did you get your inspiration from?”

“Well, I’ve always been a massive fan of artist like The XX and Crystal Castles all of my life and music has always been a passion of mine so  thought I would give the music industry a go and well…”

“I we can all see it has definatly worked out rather well for you haven’t it”

“Yeah, I couldn’t of even imagined it going this far, it’s weird to think that just a small hobby of mine could of become so successful”

“Now in your new album I felt that the song “Pulse” was more personal compared to all of the others”

“Yeah, yeah I wasn’t very happy at the time and due to personal reasons so I thought I would express myself by putting pen to paper and then the song “Pulse” was produced”

“Yeah I was definatly getting are more personal vibe when listening to it, so the critics reviews… what your opinion on that Chettri”

“Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion I guess, but the critics opinions are sh*t, that’s my opinion on the critics”

“Hahaha well the public must agree with you due to how much your album has exploded around the globe”

“Have you always wanted to be a solo artist?”

“To begin with it was just an idea I thought of with a few mates at college and so we decided to create a band together, I must admit we were not the best band you have ever heard but it was a laugh with the laugh and I really enjoyed it. After a few months of practicing and playing at a few venue we decided to end the band as we couldn’t make the time to get together as much which is understandable as two of us had jobs and the other two were at college, I didn’t mind ending the band but I still wanted to be involved in the music industry so I kept practicing and writing music in my spare time and tried to get in touch with a couple of producers and one thing led to another and now I’m here.”

Preliminary

How does your prelim represent particular social groups?
The social group that my prelim would be focused at is people who are athletic and sports minding and just generally enjoying watching and taking part in sports activities.

Who would be the intended audience for your product?
The target audience for the magazine I have created are students that are interested in sports and athletics but also the students of the school that want to find out information and news around and about the school. My magazine would include things like the opinions of teachers and full match reports on any games that happened.

How did you attract/ address your audience?
I attracted my audience by using a big bold font for my title which also was related to sport and I added sub headings which also were related to the sports on what happened at the school. I made my model stand in a sprinting pose.

What have you learned about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I feel that i have learned new and useful skills in the Photoshop such as getting images from the internet and editing them and applying them to Photoshop to the why i want them to look. I have also learned how to use blogger efficiently and easily so that i can create and upload my work a lot faster.

Teacher feedback

I have taken all of the feedback from my teachers and i am going to apply it to my blog. I am going to make some small changes to the presentation of my blog and the work on it my re sizing some of the images and removing the word schedule from every post i do.  I am going to add more detail to previous posts i have done and the ones i do in the future as this will benefit my overall mark for this piece of coursework. I am also going to give more detail on how i would use certain designs and ideas on my magazine.

Artist Profile: They are an Indie/alternative rock pair who creates and plays music which is similar to people like The XX and crystal castles. The way  that they play would be the female creating the vocals and the male using the base.

There mass marketing of the women's division consist of Now, Chat and Women. They also publish things like TV Times and goodtoknow network.  The company also consits of lifestyle brands such as NME and Mouse Breaker. The upmarket women's division consits of things like Luxury and Essentials for luxury fashion.

I feel that IPC would be a perfect publishing company for the type of magazine I'm producing because it is somewhat similar to some of the other magazines such as NME. My magazines have some of the same ideas as NME with writing about some of the same style and genre of music but it also has information about upcoming events. IPC is a UK based company so it would fit well with my magazine because a lot of the artists and information in my magazine would be in the UK.

Audience Research

The target audience that will be viewing and purchasing my magazine will be interested in the genre of indie/alternative rock and would listen to rock based music and electronic pop. The thing that my magazine would produce is the latest news and gossip about the most popular artists and other things, it would include things like interviews and and opinions of the artists. It would also include information about upcoming events and gigs which the artists may be appearing at. The age group that would be interested in my magazine is in between 16 - 26.

Viktor Vauthier Photography

Viktor Vauthier has a very simple yet effective style to his photography. He does not make his photos to complex with to much going on in the background. A key part of Viktor's style of photography is that he uses the male gaze in most of his pictures so he would somehow represent the female in the photos he takes in a sexual or attractive way for a male to look at. The normal setting for Viktor's photos are just plain white background and a good use of lighting and the models he uses are mainly girls that are very natural.

I have chosen Viktor Vauthier because i like the style and the simplicity of his photos. I think that i am going to use this style of a similar style of photography in my magazine as it is simplistic and stylish. I think that i would be able to create a photo like this to a decent quality with the recourses that are avalaible to me.

Audience research

The type of audience that would listen to my profile would be people like indie scenesters and hipsters. These people are normally related to guitar music with bands such as Vampire Weekend and Arcade Fire. The fashion in my magazine would be brands like Stussy and Obey.

The fashion style in my magazine would also relate to this audience as a lot of the pictures of band members would be wearing the same style of clothing that indie scenesters would be wearing. My magazine does not really one specific genre but target individual artists that vary in what type of music they play so this would attract the audience of indie  scenesters, the target less known artists that are up and coming
